Weekly Report 9/11/25
The first round of the 2025 Club Championships on Saturday saw Brett Radley stake an early claim for the Club Champion title while Lawrie Casey picked up his second Monthly Medal shirt in five months with a near faultless round.
With strong winds of around 40-50km/h affecting the entire round the recent scoring spree at Valley View came to a screeching halt.
Not for Casey though who put together a masterly round of 81-12-69 which consisted of nine pars (four of which came in a five-hole stretch on holes four through eight) and nine bogeys as he posted a two shot Medal win from club President Mick McAuliffe who also put himself into Championship contention with a round 82-10-72. A round that could have been so much better if not for a wayward putter that, I’m reliably informed, cost the Pres at least four shots.
It was Brett Radley though who has taken an early lead in the club championship with the day’s best gross score of 79 off the stick and he leads Casey by two shots and McAuliffe by three.
Five-time champion Ash Kuiper and Dylan Gallivan both shot rounds of 85 and Daryl Harrison is a further shot back with a round 86. That group will have its work cut out to make up the ground lost already.
Triple winner Miles Gould, who has an injury interrupted preparation, is a long way back after a round of 92.
Geoff Strachan took out the day’s B grade trophy with a score of 93-20-73 while Shaun Basset finished with 98-23-75 and won the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Peter Blackmore who had 92-17-75. Blackers score was the best gross score in B grade.
Those three players lead the B grade handicap event with a handful of players still in contention with scores of Nett 78.
Judy Greer won the ladies’ event with 100-28-72 from Nat McAuliffe with 104-30-74 while Tracey Wade posted the best gross score of 75.
The ball comp was dominated by A graders with balls going out to Kevin Bauerle with Nett 73, Brett Radley (73), Graeme Harrison (74), Kelly Cheong (74), (75) Gordon Mackay (75) and Peter Mangan (75). B graders in Rushworth’s Rob Geisler and Peter Blackmore rounded out the ball comp both with Nett 75.
Nearest the Pin winners were Peter Mangan (A grade 3rd), Daryl Harrison (A grade 12th), Stuart Newton (B grade 3rd), Tracey Wade (12th) and Mick McAuliffe who won the voucher on the 15th with a tee shot to within a metre of the cup only to miss his birdie putt.
Paul Pappin (9th) and Kelly Cheong (13th) won the nearest second shot balls.
A big thanks to Lincoln Ferrari and the team at Drummond Golf in Shepparton for the generous sponsorship of the first round of the Championships.
