Weekly Mens & Ladies Golf Reports 6.7.25
SATURDAY: Five consecutive front nine pars have proved instrumental in taking Paul Kuiper to his eighth Valley View Monthly Medal at the weekend.
Paul shot a three over 39 on the front, with the five-hole stretch spanning the fourth through eighth holes, on his way to a Medal winning round of 86-16-70.
That score gave him a one-shot Medal win from A grade runner up Miles Gould (81-10-71) and B grader winner Geoff Strachan (93-22-71).
Paul backed up his win with a gracious (in the “Collingwood” sense of the word) winner’s speech.
The “Good Kuiper” in brother Ash (76-4-72) and Nigel Dow (86-14-72) finished a further shot back and lead the ball comp winners while Gavon Armstrong took home the B grade runner’s up trophy with a round of 99-25-74.
A round of 100-27-73 was good enough to give Gill Thorsen a two-shot win in the ladies’ comp from runner up Wendy Cox with 101-26-75.
The balance of the ball comp balls went to Tony Williams (Nett 75), John Burrows (75), Paul Dickens (76), Kevin Bauerle (77), Kelly Cheong (77) and Mick Gallivan (77).
Ash Kuiper capped off a solid day at the office taking home the A grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 12th and the ball for overall best gross score.
Geoff Stracahn (B grade) and Helen Emery (in a count back from Tracey Wade) were also best gross score ball winners while Kelly Cheong (A grade 3rd), Alan Hausler (B grade 3rd), Gavon Armstrong (B grade 12th), Tracey Wade (3rd) and Grame Harrison (15th) were the other Nearest the Pin trophy winners.
An apology to last week’s sponsors Andrew and Melissa Porch at Kyabram Hire and Batteries (who we neglected to thank in last week’s column) for the very generous sponsorship of last week’s Stableford and mystery partner 4 Ball Stableford events. Their support ensured the success of the day.
TUESDAY: Some better weather this Tuesday saw enough golfers turn out for two grades with Kevin Bauerle taking out A grade with 35 points from Glenn Laity with 33 points.
Geoff Squires won a count back from Jeff Carnie in B grade to take the winner’s trophy with 33 points.
Balls went to John Burrows, Robin Quinn and David Collins (each with 32 points) along with Doug Crowe and Mick Coyne, both with 31 points.
David Collins (3rd) and Kevin Bauerle (12th) won the A grade NTP trophies, the B grade NTPs stayed with the club and the voucher on the 15th was won by Mick Pell.
On a sad note to finish, we lost long time member and former club President Barry Prideaux who passed away last week and our sincerest condolences go out to Cheryl and the Prideaux family on their loss. I understand that a service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at Tocumwal Golf Club this Friday at 2pm.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF -Strong wind had a big impact on scores in the Stroke and Medal round at Valley View on Wednesday. Kyabram Bakery were our generous sponsors for the day.
When Jenni Bauerle was announced as the A Grade winner, she was quite surprised to realise that her score of 95-15-80 could be the winning score. Equally surprised was runner up, Helen Emery with 100-18-82. Helen Armstrong was nearest the pin and Jenni Bauerle was the Scratch winner.
Scores were better in B Grade with a count back required to decide the winner. Von Morris won the count back with 102–26-76 from Gill Thorsen, 103- 27-76 to take the win and best scratch score. Wendy Cox was nearest the pin.
Helen Armstrong had the least putts with 26. Von Morris was congratulated for winning her first Monthly Medal.
