Weekly Mens & Ladies Golf Reports 3/8/25

SATURDAY: In stark contrast to last week’s conditions, this week’s Medal round was played in almost perfect golf weather so there were no excuses for our golfers for poor scoring not that you would know it from the numbers on the Jack Bond scoreboard upon completion of the round.

Only one player managed to play to his handicap and that was Daryl Harrison who took out his first Medal Shirt in 3 ½ years with a near flawless round of 80-8-72 picking up the A grade Nearest the Pin trophy on the 12th and the NTP voucher on the 15th along the way.

Daryl finished four shots clear of his nearest challengers in A grade runner up Stephen Browne (89-13-76), B grade winner Corey Browne (97-21-76) and B grade runner up Shaun Bassett (99-23-76).

Gill Thorsen took out the ladies’ event with a score of 101-26-75 finishing two shots clear of runner up Jan McHale who posted a round of 102-25-77.

The highlight of Gill’s round was her chip in on the ninth which won her the ball for nearest second shot on that hole and proved decisive in her win.

Balls in the ball comp went to Peter Sherman with Nett 77, Geoff Strachan (77), Paul Kuiper (78), Peter Mangan (79) along with Jenni Baurle, Nigel Dow, Ash Kuiper and Mick Coyne all with scores of Nett 80.

A grade’s Steve Usher and Jan McHale picked up Nearest the Pin balls on the third while Best Gross scores went to Daryl Harrison (80), Corey Browne (97) and Jenni Bauerle (96).

TUESDAY: The standout round of the week came from Glenn Laity who won A grade on Tuesday with the very good score of 40 points and left the rest of the field in his wake with runner up Mick Pell six shots back with 34 points.

Geoff Strachan took out B grade with 34 points in a countback from Brenton Sheppard while balls went to David Collins (33 points), Kevin Bauerle (31), Peter Mangan (30), Daryl Harrison (29) and Laurie Radley (29) in another low scoring ball comp.

Nearest the Pin trophies were won by Graeme Harrison (A grade 3rd), Glenn Laity (A grade 12th), Brenton Sheppard (B grade 3rd), David Collins (B grade 12th) and Mick Pell (voucher on 15th).

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF: In another low scoring, smaller field competition, 32 points were all that were needed for Helen Armstrong to secure a win. And just like last week, three players on 31 points contested the countback, with Helen Emery nudging ahead of Tracey Wade and Marlene Topp.
