Men & Ladies Weekly Golf Report 19/10/25

Some excellent 4 Ball scores were the feature of the 3rd annual club sponsored Dom Cerrone Memorial Day.

Once again, the ladies lead the way with Tracey Wade and Wendy Cox putting together a combined score of 49 which would give them victory by the slenderest of margins from Jan McHale and Marie Watt who combined for 48 points.

Wendy dominated the card featuring 12 times although Tracey made the holes that she scored on count notching two 4-point, and four 3-point holes.

The men’s event was also tightly contested with a one-shot margin as Gordon Mackay and Peter Sherman combined for 45 points as they held out Peter “Penguin” Nelson and Graeme Harrison who finished one shot behind with 44 points.

While Peter and Gordon both scored on nine holes each, Peter contributed the lion’s share of points scoring 26 across the nine holes that he scored on.

For Harro and Penguin it was a case of what might have been as they gave up three points after hitting the wrong ball not once, not twice but three times between them. Staggeringly, Penguin only saw one of those penalties as avoidable!

Ball comp winners on the day were Helen Amrstrong and Gill Thorsen with 45 points, Von Morris and Nat McAuiffe (45), Helen Emery and Marg Smerdon (43), Paul Westwood and Shaun Power (43) and Geoff Strachan and Peter Blackmore (43). Another four groups with 43 points missed out on balls in a countback.

Pooch McHale (3rd) and Kelly Cheong (12th) were the A grade Nearest the Pin winners, Paul Pappin won the B grade NTP on the 12th, while Nat McAuliffe (3rd) and Von Morris (12th) won the ladies’ NTP balls. The voucher on the 15th was on won by Brett Radley.

A big thanks to Dom’s sisters Carmel and Ange who were on hand for presentations with Carmel providing some tasty treats.

It was also good to see a group of Dom’s former Buildpro workmates in attendance on the day.

On Tuesday Mick Gallivan took out A grade with 36 points from Gordon Mackay with 35 while in B grade Laurie Radley got the better of Alan Hausler in a countback after they both logged scores of 37 points.

Balls went to Jack Hammond with 36 points, Ian Scurrah (36), John Burrows (35), Peter Lyon (34), Ron Dixon (34) and Peter Mangan (34).

Daryl Harrison won the voucher on the fifteenth and the ball for nearest second shot on the ninth went to Mick Gallivan.

This week’s event is Stableford with assembly at 1130am.

 Ladies Wednesday Golf Report

It was everyone’s favourite, PAR, last Wednesday. We thank our sponsors, Von Morris and Wendy Cox for their generous sponsorship.

Tracey Wade enjoyed her day on the course with a very good score of plus 3, to win A Grade and a nice nearest the pin. Marilyn West finished square to be runner up.

A count back was required to decide the B Grade result. Jan McHale was the winner from Gill Thorsen, when both finished 2up. Nearest the pin was Gill Thorsen.

Valley View hosted 80 Summer Pennant players on Monday 13th. The combined Valley View/Mooroopna team played a tight match against Cobram Two, unfortunately going down two matches to three.
