Mens & Ladies Weekly Golf Report - 12/10/25
It was a very big week in golf at Valley View with a big field turning out for Saturday’s October Monthly Medal with nine of the last twelve months Monthly Medalists battling it out for the Medalist of Medalist title.
Kelly Cheong took out the October Monthly Medal with a round of 84-12-72 in a countback from the B grade winner in Alan Hausler who had a round of 93-21-72. Kelly’s back nine 39, which featured three pars and a birdie, proved decisive in the countback.
The Medalist of the Medalists was also decided on a countback with Lawrie Casey and last year’s winner, Pooch McHale, both posting rounds of 86-12-74. There was one shot separating them in the countback with Lawrie posting a back nine of 42 and Pooch 43.
Dylan Gallivan was the A grade runner up with 82-9-73 while Geoff Squires picked up the B grade runner’s up trophy with 103-30-73 from Peter Blackmore (90-17-73) in another countback.
No countbacks in the ladies’ event with Merryn Anderson claiming a decisive four-shot win with a round of 119-52-67 from Wendy Cox with 87-26-71.
Best Gross scores on the day were Dylan Gallivan with 82, Peter Blackmore (B grade) and Jenni Bauerle and Tracey Wade who could not be separated in a countback with scores of 94 off the stick.
Brett Radley (A grade 3rd), Paul Pappin (B grade 3rd), Peter Costello (B grade 12th), Von Morris (12th) and Corey Browne (15th) were the day’s Nearest the Pin trophy winners while
Pooch McHale picked up the best second shot ball on the ninth when his putt from the back of the green just refused to drop.
In what our Captain, Gavon Armstrong, acknowledged was a “very generous” ball comp, balls went to Peter Blackmore, Pooch McHale, Lawrie Casey (scores already mentioned), Geoff Strachan (Nett 74), Judy Greer (74), Tracey Wade (75), Kevin Bauerle (75), Mick Gallivan (75), David Collins (75) and Lindsay Tatterson (75). Hopefully the ball cupboard will be replenished for Tuesday!!
On Tuesday Peter Mangan was finally able to shake off the trauma of Geelong’s Grand Final capitulation to put together an excellent round of 41 points and record a two shot win in
A grade from Brenton Sheppard who (for the mathematically challenged) had a score of 39 points.
David Collins was the B grade winner with 36 points while Peter Lyon got the better of John Neale and Jeff Carnie in a three-way count back for runner up with the score of 34 points.
Balls went the way of Robin Quinn and Kevin Bauerle each with 37 points, Daryl Harrison (36) and John Neale and Jeff Carnie with 34 points.
Nearest the Pin trophy winners were Gordon Mackay and Paul Pappin on the 3rd, Kevin Bauerle and Stuart Newton on the 12th, and Mick Pell (15th).
Daryl Harrison won the ball for nearest second shot on the ninth.
Don’t forget this week is the 3rd Annual Dom Cerrone Memorial 4BBB Stableford event with assembly at 1130am.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF:
With a contingent of Valley View women playing in the Golf Victoria Spring Tournament at Flinders last Wednesday, a small field played a Stableford round at Valley View.
After Marie Watt’s sensational round of 47 points on the previous Saturday, the question was posed as to whether anyone could equal her score. After nine holes, the eventual winner had racked up 24 points, so the question was then posed could Watt’s score be bettered. By adding a further 20 points on the back nine, Judy Greer with a total of 44 points was the winner, but Watt’s score remained the bench mark.
Marlene Topp was runner up with 38 points.
Away from home at Flinders, three Valley View women recorded top ten finishes in their respective grades. Jenni Bauerle was fifth in the B Grade Gross, Wendy Cox was eighth in the Gross and fourth in the Nett in C Grade and Janice Johnstone was tenth in the Nett in C Grade.
To round out the week, the unstoppable, Wendy Cox had 41 points to win Division Two at Swaggers at Mooroopna on Friday.
