Weekly Golf Report 7/9/25

Saturday’s Monthly Medal event turned into a generational challenge with young gun teenager Archer Backway clinching the B grade winner’s trophy and his first Monthly Medal with a round of 91-23-68.

Archer set up his medal win early in his round with a consistent front nine of 44 which included two pars, six bogeys and just one double bogey which came on the second hardest hole on the course, the par four second.

Just a further shot off the pace was the not so young Lindsay Tatterson who put together a round of 103-34-69 as he too pursued his first Valley View medal. Ultimately, he would fall one shot short settling for the consolation prize of the B grade runner’s up trophy.

The margin in A grade was also one shot with the dinged-up Kevin Bauerle finishing his round with 87-16-71 one shot ahead of Gordon “the Golfer” Mackay who posted a round of 86-14-72.

A countback was required to find our ladies’ winner with Marlene Topp emerging as the winner with 110-35-75 from Jenni Bauerle with 92-17-75 on a good day for the House of Bauerle.

Ball comp winners were Alan Hausler with Nett 71, Bud Thorsen (71), David Collins (71), John Neale (72), Steve Usher (73), the highly forgettable Peter Mangan (75), Von Morris (76) and Bev Lyon (77).

Best Gross score balls went to Gordon Mackay, David Collins and Jenni Bauerle.

Trophy winners on the Par three holes were Mick Gallivan (A grade 3rd), Pooch McHale (A grade 12th), David Collins (B grade 3rd), Bev Lyon (3rd), Merryn Anderson (15th) and Von Morris (2nd shot 9th).

Countbacks were the order of the day on Tuesday with a three-way tie breaker in A grade going the way of Gordon Mackay with 37 points as he nudged out runner up Pooch McHale and the luckless Kelly Cheong.

Peter Lyon took out B grade with 35 points from Alan Hausler with the same score while balls on the day were won by the aforementioned Kelly Cheong, Graeme Harrison (35 points), Dayl Harrison (33), Kevin Wootton (33), Geoffrey Strachan (33).

Nearest the Pin winners were Kelly Cheong (3rd), Daryl Harrison (12th), Peter Lyon (3rd), David Collins (12th) and Kevin Wootton (15th). Kelly’s tee shot on the third finished just 45cm from the cup and earned him a dozen jackpot balls.

Pooch McHale had finished closest to the cup on the ninth with his second shot.

With inclement weather forecast for this week the coring of the greens has been postponed and are now scheduled to commence on Wednesday 17 September.
