Mens & Ladies Weekly Golf Report 31/8/25

In spite of yet another wintry day a good field turned out for Saturday’s Cooper-Buckell 4BBB Stableford event and given the conditions the scoring was quite good.

In a tight contest Daryl Harrison and Nagambie’s Michael Roberts, playing off seven and two respectively, put together a score of 43 points.

That number was matched by Steve Usher and Alex Kydd playing off 14 and eight respectively.

The subsequent countback went Daryl and Michael’s way thanks to a back nine of 24 points one better than Alex and Steve and in no small part due to three birdies from Daryl on the 10th, 11th and 18th holes that netted 11 of those points.

Daryl also had a big day on the par three holes picking up the Nearest the Pin trophies on the 12th and 15th on the way to par on those holes.

For the runner’s up Steve registered 35 points on the card across 13 holes but alas his putting fell away through the round as he registered three unexpected three putts and he is now booked in for lessons at my putting academy…. he’ll be down to 35-36 putts a round in no time!

Von Morris and Wendy Cox teamed very well to take out the ladies’ event with 39 points with Von’s birdie for five points on the 18th proving crucial as they finished one point clear of Sharon Harrison and Julie Neale.

Balls in the ball comp went to Shaun Basset and Sean McDonell with 41 points, Steve and Corey Browne (39), Glen Laity and Alan Curnow (39) and Pooch McHale and Graeme Harrison (39) while Jenni Bauerle picked up the ladies’ NTP ball on the twelfth hole.

A BIG thanks to John Buckell and Phil Cooper for their generous sponsorship of this event, not just this year but for over decade now.

Tuesday’s field also turned in some good scores in some particularly miserable conditions with five players registering 38-point scores.

Four of those scores were logged by A graders testing out the duty team with a four-way count back from which Kelly Cheong emerged as the winner from runner up Mick Pell, Paul Kuiper and Kevin Humbert who both settled for balls in the ball comp.

The last 38-point score came from David Collins who took out B grade as he works on getting his handicap down to a number worthy of A grade status once again.

Peter Sherman was the B grade runner up with 36 points while the last two balls in the ball comp went to Daryl Harrison with 37 points and Mick Coyne with 36.

Nigel Dow won the A grade NTP balls on the 3rd and 12th, David Collins the B grade NTP on the 3rd, Daryl Harrison the voucher on the 15th and Kelly Cheong picked up the ball for the nearest second shot on the ninth.

Next Saturday’s event, as we move into spring, is the September Monthly Medal.

Finally, our members and prospective guests should note that the course will be shut next Sunday 7th, Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th as our grounds team undertake the spring coring and sanding of the greens.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF:

It was icy cold, it was very windy, but fortunately the rain held off until after the Stableford round played by Valley View women last Wednesday. The weather conditions were reflected in the low scores on the day.

Winner on the day was Wendy Cox, fresh from a holiday in warmer places, who accumulated 32 points. Playing partners, Vonnie Morris and Tracey Wade both finished on 31 points. Morris was runner up on a count back.
