Weekly Golf Report 4/1/26
A bright start to his round on Saturday has led to a winning start to 2026 for Nigel Dow.
Teeing off on the long Par five 14th Nigel started 2026 with a birdie four and quickly added birdies on the Par five 18th (after putting for Eagle) and par four 1st holes on his way to a round of 81-14-67 and the January Monthly Medal, his first Medal win at the club.
Nigel finished two shots clear of the unlucky duo of Rod Breen (83-14-69) and Mick Gallivan (82-13-69) who posted rounds that in most months would have them fighting it out for the Medal. As it was Rod got the better of Mick in the countback for the A grade runner up trophy.
In B grade the consistent Laurie Radley also started 2026 with a win posting a round of 90-19-71 which enabled him to steer clear of the organized (?) chaos that was the process to determine the B grade runner up. (I would like to elaborate on that last statement, but to do so would indicate some small semblance of understanding as to what actually occurred at presentation!).
Ultimately, Jeff Carnie was declared as the B grade runner up with 94-21-73 in a countback from Stuart Newton with 90-17-73.
No such problems with the results in the ladies’ comp with Tracey Wade a decisive four shot winner with a round of 88-18-70 from Marlene Topp who finished with 110-36-74.
Tracey’s 88 off the stick also won her the ladies’ best gross score ball, Brett Radley had the day’s best gross score of 76 while the mayhem in B grade extended to the best Gross Score ball (sorry Blackers you will need to give that ball back) which was won by either Laurie Radley or Stuart Newton with 90 off the stick.
A festive season ball comp saw balls won by Mick Gallivan with Nett 69, Mick McAuliffe (71), Brett Radley (71), Kevin Humbert (72), Gordon Mackay (73), Alex Kydd (73), Stuart Newton (73), Pooch McHale (74), Graeme Harrison (74) and Shaun Bassett (74).
A rare full suite of Nearest the Pin trophy winners which was made up of Ash Kuiper (A grade 3rd), Peter Blackmore (A grade 12th), Stuart Newton (B grade 3rd), Rory Kerr (B grade 12th), Trudy Denham (3rd), Helen Emery (12th) and Daryl Harrison (15th).
Tracey Wade rounded out a good day taking out the best 2nd shot on the 9th while Gordon the Golfer won the ball for best second shot on 13th.
