Weekly Golf Report 28/6/26

Saturday’s mystery 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford concept was well received by the excellent field that turned out.

Certainly, the post round draw to allocate partners added an interesting dimension to presentations as each player waited in keen anticipation to see who they had been drawn with.

Ultimately the draw saw Gary Cleary and Peter Blackmore as the most successful pairing with a combined total of 66 points. While Gary’s 36 points proving decisive, Blackers contributed a more than handy 30 points of his own on what was a low scoring day.

Ian Brown and Jan McHale finished as runner’s up with an aggregate of 64 points with a pair of 32-point scores.

Matt Jean (36) and Bert Adams (27) had a combined tally of 63 points as did Gordon Mackay (29) and Shane Bywaters (34) while the pairings of Judy Greer (28) and Les Hall (34) and David Collins (31) and Kyle Kydd (31) were ball comp winners with 62 points.

Nearest the Pin winners were Matt Jean (A grade 12th and First Tea Voucher 15th), Ian Brown (B grade 12th), Von Morris (2nd shot 9th) and Paul Kuiper (2nd shot 13th). Incredibly on a perfectly still day not one player could find the third green from the tee.

On Tuesday Shepparton’s Lachlan Wilson took out A grade with 34 points from Pooch McHale who finished as runner up with 31 points in a four countback from Daryl Harrison, Kevin Humbert and Paul Kuiper - those three players making up the ball comp winners.

Gary Jurey won B grade with 32 points by one shot from Kayne Crompton with 31 points.

Shane Bywaters picked up the A grade Nearest the Pin trophies on the both the 3rd and 12th holes while Les Hall (3rd) and Jeff Carnie (12th) won the B grade NTP balls.

Peter Mangan won the First Tea Voucher on the 15th and nearest second shot balls went to Colin Rangitonga (9th) and Rochester’s David Gebbie (13th).

This week’s event is the July Monthly Medal with the usual 1130am assembly.

Our Pennant started its winter campaign on Sunday hosting Hill Top.

After a string of lop-sided results in the first four matches Valley View’s fete rested with Mick Gallivan who was engaged in a tight hole for hole struggle which he took to the last hole before losing one down which saw Hill Top take the match 3&2.

The other match scores on the day were:

Brett Radley won 6&4

Laurie Radley won 6&5

Miles Gould lost 8&7

Mick Pell lost 8&6

Scoop

Ladies Wednesday Golf:

Fog that refused to lift and chilly temperatures greeted Valley View women last Wednesday. While a contingent of players played for the gold and silver putters at Murray Downs, also in the fog, a small group of players took to the course at Valley View.

Helen Armstrong was the winner with 29 points and Judy Greer was the runner up on a count back from Gill Thorsen when both finished on 28 points. Sometimes golf is more about the exercise than the scores.
