Weekly Golf Report 25/1/26

Countbacks were the order of the day for Saturday’ Stableford event.

In A grade, ten handicapper, Pooch McHale put together a round of 36 points outpointing Gordon “The Golfer” Mackay (12 handicap) in the count back.

It was a three-way countback in B grade with Bowen Queensland’s (and part time Rochester Resident) Frank Broucek getting the better of Stuart Newton and Alan Curnow in a countback after all posted scores of 37 points.

No countback necessary in the ladies’ comp though with Trudy Denham putting together the day’s best score of 39 points and she scored a clear cut four shot win from the ever-consistent Tracey Wade with 35 points.

Alan Curnow led the ball comp winners with his score of 37 points and was joined by Penguin Nelson (36), Ian Rathjen (35), David Collins (34) and Rochester’s Dave Gebbie (34).

Our golfers were on the inaccurate side on the par three holes with the only three NTP trophies claimed and they all went to A graders in Gordon Mackay (3rd), Glenn Laity (12th), and Shane Bywaters who won the First Tea Voucher on the 15th.

On Tuesday Kelly Cheong bounced back quickly after a recent forced lay off to take out A grade with 38 points from young gun Wil Harrison who finished with 36 points.

Lockington’s Stuart Newton was a one-shot winner in B grade with 37 points, narrowly scraping home from Parkland’s Jake Plumb who had a round of 36 points.

Brett Radley, Pooch McHale, Daryl Harrison, and Peter Mangan all won balls in the ball comp with 36 points while the final ball was won by Paul Pappin with 35 points.

Nearest the Pin trophies were won by Pooch McHale (A grade 3rd), Gordon Mackay (A grade 12th), Greg Watkins (B grade 3rd), Geoff Strachan (B grade 3rd), and Daryl Harrison who won the First Tea voucher on the 15th.

Nearest 2nd shot balls were won by Wil Harrison (13th) and John Burrows (9th).

With the current heat wave conditions set to be with us until at least Saturday please keep an eye out for messages from our Captain for heat rule updates. The events scheduled for Australia Day and Tuesday (yesterday) have already been cancelled due to the conditions.

Thanks to my new apprentice, Marcel, for putting together last week’s report. He’s not much with the words Marcel, but he got the job done.
