Weekly Golf Report 1/2/2026

Thanks to the heat over the past week there are a lot of moving parts to this week’s report which effected both scheduling and Data Entry/AI so stay with me and keep up if you can.

To Saturday’s event and a surprisingly good field turned out on very hot day.

Peter Blackmore and Helen Armstrong almost matched the day’s peak temp with rounds of 40 and 41 points respectively.

Blackers’ score gave him a one-point win in A grade, the unlucky runner up being David Collins with 39 points, while Helen was a comfortable winner in the ladies’ event from Lynne Canavan who had a round of 36 points

In B grade Alan Curnow put together a round of 34 points and finished one shot clear of John Burrows with 33 points.

Nearest the Pin trophies were won by Rochester’s David Gebbie (A grade 3rd), Mick Coyne (A grade 12th), Alan Curnow (B grade 3rd), Helen Armstrong (3rd) and Rod Breen (First Tea Voucher on 15th).

Rod Breen headed the ball comp winners with 38 points from Stephen Browne (36), Glenn Laity (34), Kelly Cheong (34), Peter Mangan (34), Shane Bywaters (34) and Mick Gallivan 34.

Nearest second shot balls were won by Stephen Browne (13th) and Ian Scurrah (9th).

…… HOLD the PHONE and STOP the PRESSES!!! Some LATE MAIL with an extra card found belonging to Paul Dickens which has elevated him to B grade winner with 36 points. I just hope Alan and JB haven’t spent their winner & runner’s up vouchers!!

As I alluded to at the top of the program it was that sort of week at Valley View with the initially cancelled comp (due to the predicted scorcher) for Tuesday re-instated at an earlier time.

While only a small field of sun lovers took advantage of the change, those that did made light of the conditions with Paul Pappin’s winning score of 43 points only 0.3 short of the day’s max temp. Along the way he also secured the First Tea voucher for Nearest the Pin on the 15th.

Wil Harrison and Jeff Carnie both had 37 points and fought it out in a count back for the runner’s trophy with Wil getting the nod.

Jeff and Pooch McHale (34 points) were ball comp winners while birthday boy, Graeme Harrison, won the NTP ball on the 3rd. It was a profitable day for the Harrison family with Daryl picking up the NTP ball on the 12th.

This Saturday’s event is the February Monthly medal and with more moderate conditions forecast the regulation assembly times of 8am and 11.30am will apply.

On Sunday our Pennant team recorded a decisive 4-1 win over Shepparton at Hill Top. Match Results were:

Peter Blackmore & Lawrie Casey won 5&4

Mick Gallivan & Paul Kuiper won 2&1

Ash Kuiper & Nathan Kuiper won 4&2

Laurie & Brett Radley won 5&3

David Collins & Gordon the Golfer lost 6&4
