Weekly Golf Report - 24/5/26
The field that turned out for Saturday’s Isaac Family Memorial Qualifier produced some of the best scores in (my admittedly shaky) memory for this particular event.
Last year’s winning score of +5 was smashed by the combination of Sean McDonell and Luke Morris who posted the 4BBB Par score of +8.
That score left them as comfortable three shot winners and well clear of the five-way log jam of groups contesting the runner’s up spot all with the score of +5.
After a very lengthy countback Doug Crow and Peter Lyon emerged as the runner’s up from the pairings of Alan Curnow & Kerry Kreeck, Lawrie Casey & Kelly Cheong and Alan Hausler & John Neale.
While Doug and Peter took home the runner’s up trophy on for the day’s event Doug is not a member and as such that left the groupings for the next round as follows:
Sean McDonell & Luke Morris will take on the fourth placed qualifiers in Alan Hausler & John Neale while Alan Curnow & Kerry Kreeck will match up against Lawrie Casey and Kelly Cheong.
The next round needs to be completed by the end of June with the two winning combinations going through to the final which needs to be completed by the end of July.
While all that was going on the ladies contested an individual Stableford event with Sharon Harrison making a welcome return to form with 39 points finishing one shot ahead of Bev Lyon with 38 points. Judy Greer picked up a ball with37 points.
Nearest the Pin winners were Ash Kuiper and Peter Lyon (3rd), Brett Radley (12th) and Lawrie Casey won the First Tea Voucher on the 15th which he had no trouble in converting into a bogey four.
Von Morris (9th) and Pooch McHale (13th) picked up the nearest second shot balls.
While Saturday’s scores were exceptional the numbers from Tuesday’s Stableford round were tepid at best.
Daryl Harrison won A grade with 35 in a countback from Kevin Bauerle but things dropped away quite sharply after that with Geoff Strachan the B grade winner with 31 points from Kayne Crompton with 30.
Pooch McHale (33 points), Shane Bywaters (33), Mick McAuliffe (32) and Peter Blackmore (32) won balls in the ball comp.
Shane Piggot was the only NTP trophy winner on the day picking up the A grade ball on the 12th while Ron Dixon (9th) and Mick McAuliffe (13th) won the best second shot balls.
Our Match & Handicap team must be going away for the long weekend in a fortnight as, in their infinite wisdom, they have decided to bring the June Monthly Medal forward to next Saturday (29th May).
