Weekly Golf Report 23/8/26
After another 10mm of rain on Wednesday that closed the course for two days, the Valley View track was again on the slow side for Saturday’s Par event.
In A grade Pooch McHale handled the conditions best finishing with 35 points and a one-shot win over Mick McAuliffe and Lawrie Casey who both finished with 34 points with the subsequent countback going the President’s way (as these things seem to do) as Lawrie missed out on a placing for the first time in three weeks.
B grade winner Laurie Radley also posted a round of 35 points as he got the better of Kevin Bauerle in a countback.
KB continues to grapple with his identity crisis as he moves back and forward between A & B grade with the same certainty/uncertainty as an on again off again middle east peace deal.
The best score of the day was logged by Jan McHale who had an excellent round of 38 points as she cruised to a comfortable win in the ladies’ event with Helen Emery finishing next best with 27 points.
Ball comp winners were Lawrie Casey with 34 points, Corey Browne (34), Paul Kuiper (33) and Nigel Dow with 32 points.
Another cheap day for the club on the par three holes with only two Nearest the Pin trophies claimed and they were won by Pooch McHale (3rd) and Miles Gould (12th).
Second shot balls went to Mick McAuliffe (13th) and Helen Emery (9th).
Tuesday’s winners were Peter Mangan in A grade with 34 points and Peter Lyon in B grade with 36 points while Miles Gould (33 points) and Geoff Strachan (34 points) were the respective runners up.
Balls went out to Albert Adams (33 points), Jeff Carnie (32), Mal Williams (32) and Paul Newman (32).
NTP the winners were Kevin Humbert (A grade 3rd), Mick McAuliffe (A grade 12th) and Daryl Harrison the First Tea voucher on the 15th while Kevin Baurle (9th) and Paul Newman (13th) won the second shot balls.
Don’t forget the Cooper-Buckell 4BBB Stableford event this Saturday with BBQ lunch from 11am, registration by 1130am and tee off at Midday. There will be a great range of trophies up for grabs and the entry fee (including lunch) is just $18.
