Weekly Golf Report 18/5/2025
A touch of winter greeted our golfers for Saturday’s Par event with a strong southerly in play which tempered scoring somewhat.
That didn’t mean things weren’t interesting though with a countback required to separate three players in A grade all with the score of -1.
Those players were Mick Coyne who emerged from the countback as the winner from (runner up) Gordon Mackay while a desperately unlucky (his words) Peter Noble had to settle for a ball in the ball comp.
The only player to play to his handicap on the day, Tony Williams won B Grade with the score of even and he finished two shots in front of John Neale with -2.
Helen Armstrong won the ladies’ comp with -2 by the barest of margins with Helen Emery taking out the runner’s up trophy with -3 in a countback from Wanda Hacon.
In addition to the aforementioned Peter Noble, ball comp winners were Steve Browne with -2, Glen Laity (-2), Wanda Hacon (-3), Laurie Radley (-3) and Peter Blackmore (-3).
The field really struggled to find the target on the par three holes with only Kelly Cheong (A grade 3rd) and Paul Dickens (voucher on 15th) claiming Nearest the Pin trophies.
On Tuesday the headline act was Michael Pell who won B grade with a massive 44 points shaving three shots off his 21 handicap in the process.
Laurie Radley trailed him in, seven shots behind, to take out the runner’s up trophy with 37 points.
Those two gentlemen also picked up the B grade NTP trophies – Laurie on the 3rd and Mick on the 12th.
Mick Coyne had a good week when it came to countbacks as he also won A grade on Tuesday in a three-way countback from David Collins (runner up) and Kevin Humbert with each of those three contenders posting the score of 35 points.
David Collins added the A grade NTP ball on the 3rd to his runner’s up trophy while balls went to Ron Dixon with 36 points, the previously mentioned Kevin Humbert, John Neale (34), Peter Noble (33) and Pooch McHale (33).
This week’s event is the qualifying round for the Isaac Family 4BBB Par event.
This is an honor board event so be sure to get yourself a good partner for the day.

Ladies Golf Report
The second round of the Club Championships was completed last Wednesday. Although not finalised, results so far suggest a strong possibility that back to back winners are on the cards in all 3 Championship grades, although the runners up positions may change. All will be revealed in next week’s report. Good luck to all who are in contention.
In the daily competition sponsored by Bennett’s Intersport, some excellent results were returned. Best for the day was Helen Armstrong who continued her strong form to win A Grade with 97-24-73, closely followed by Tracey Wade, 92-18-74, whose 92 of the stick won her the Scratch award. Armstrong also picked up the nearest the pin.
In B Grade, Marie Watt was the winner, 105-31-74, by one shot from Sharon Harrison, 101-26-75, who also won the Scratch award. Judy Greer was nearest the pin.
In Winter Pennant on May 12th, Valley View went down 2/3 to Numurkah at Shepparton. In a very close competition, the team now sits 2 points back from three teams with matches against Cobram and Mooroopna to come. A win at home on Monday 19th would see the team still in contention for the final play off.
