Weekly Golf Report 11/5/25

SATURDAY: The weather for Saturday’s Stableford event was almost an exact replica of last weekend’s and again our golfers failed to take advantage ……with ONE exception.

Young gun Wil Harrison put on a clinic posting the impressive score of 44 points from a handicap of twelve as he stormed around the Valley View course with a round of four over the card 76.

The highlight of his round was an eagle two on the dog leg 255 metre par four fourth. After successfully taking on the trees on the corner leaving his tee shot on the fringe of the green, Wil calmly drilled the eagle putt.

Incredibly that was Wil’s second eagle on the hole within a month and while he played off twelve at the weekend his handicap is heading toward single figures fast as he tracks down dad, Daryl, who from memory is playing off eight.

What’s more our A grade golfers are going to have their work cut out keeping him at bay on a weekly basis and who knows what scores he will be posting by the time the club championships come around later in the year.

Wil’s score left the rest of the A grade field playing for the runner’s up trophy which was fought out for by Peter Blackmore and David Collins. Both had scores of 36 points with the countback won by Peter.

It was a tighter contest in B grade with club Captain Gavon Armstrong a two-shot winner with 35 points from John Burrows with 33 points.

The margin in the ladies’ comp was also two shots - Judy Greer the winner with 36 points and Tracey Wade taking out the runner’s up trophy with 34 points.

Balls in the ball comp went to David Collins with 36 points, Peter Noble (35), Gordon Mackay (34), Nigel Dow (33), Helen Armstrong (33) and Ash Kuiper (33).

There were slim pickings once again on the par three holes with the only Nearest the Pin winners being Peter Noble (A grade 3rd), Paul Dickens (B grade 3rd) and Judy Greer (voucher on 15).

Our sponsor for this week’s event was Hurley’s Hotel and we thank them for their generous support.

On Tuesday another Harrison (of the Graeme variety) took out A grade with 39 points finishing six shots ahead of Gordon Mackay (33 points) in another decisive result.

It was much closer in B grade with John Burrows taking the honours in a countback from Geoff Strachan after both players posted scores of 34 points.

There were seven ball comp winners all with 32 points and they were Des Cornwall, Richard Caiofa, Daryl Harrison, Mick Coyne, Pooch McHale and Jeff Carnie.

Col Johnson (A grade) and Fred West (B grade) won Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd, Ron Dixon picked up the voucher on the 15th while Richard Caiolfa eagled the par five eighth.
