Weekly Golf Report 7/6/26
After a wet and miserable week to open winter the Valley View course was in remarkably good condition for the field that turned out for Saturday’s Stableford event.
There was a dampening effect on the scoring though with only two players getting the better of the handicapper, their scores standing out like beacons on the Jack Bond scoreboard.
Those players were Rod Breen who, playing off a handicap of 11, took out A grade with the very good score of 39 points and Daryl Harrison who finished as the A grade runner up with 38 points after shooting a round of 75 off the stick as he once again threatened to break par.
In B grade Paul Pappin took home his second winner’s trophy for the week with 34 points while the Old Fox Les Hall finished two shots back with 32 points.
Jenni Bauerle won the ladies’ comp with 34 points and a five-shot margin from sister and runner up Leanne Busch who posted the score of 29 points.
Ball winners on the day were Gary Cleary with 34 points, Ray Falla (32), Lindsay Tatterson (31), Stephen Piggot (30), Bud Thorsen (30), John Burrows (30) and Pooch McHale (30).
Laurie Radley (ninth) and Shane Bywaters (13th) took home the best second shot balls but remarkably, given there was little breeze to speak of, not one player was able to find the putting surface from the tee on a Par 3 hole to claim a Nearest the Pin trophy.
On Tuesday Pres Mick McAuliffe took out A grade with 35 points in a countback from Steve Piggot while Paul Pappin made a good start to a good week with a win in B grade with 31 points. On a difficult day for scoring John Burrows was the B grade runner up with 23 points.
Ball comp winners were Kevin Bauerle with 33 points, David Collins (32) and Mick Pell 31).
Nearest the Pin winners were Kevin Bauerle (A grade 3rd hole), Paul Kuiper (A grade 12th), Dave Gebbie (B grade 12th) and Shane Bywaters (First Tea Voucher on 15th).
Laurie Radley seems to have the ninth under control as he took out the first of two best second shot balls on that hole for the week and I trust that he capitalised on his good work by making par. Mick Pell won the best second shot ball on the 13th.
