Weekly Golf Report - 26/7/26

Club stalwarts John Neale and Alan Hausler will have their names added to the Valley View Honour Board after taking out the Isaac Memorial 4 Ball final at the weekend.

John and Alan defeated Alan Curnow and Kerry Kreeck on the second play-off hole of the final after Curnow and Kreeck fought back from an early three-hole deficit to level the match on the 17th with that status holding after the 18th.

Both pairings had their chances to claim the match on the 18th and the first playoff hole before John and Alan sealed the deal on the 20th hole.

 A big thanks to the Isaac Family and Albion Motors who have been long time supporters of this event.

To Saturday’s Stableford event and while the course is in good nick, in racing parlance it would be rated as slow. As a result, scoring remains on the moderate side with just two players, in Colin Rangitonga and Mick Gallivan playing to their handicaps again on the weekend as they went to a countback for the B grade honors with 36 points each.

Colin got the better of the countback with Mick (now a confirmed B grader) settling for the runner’s up trophy.

In A grade the consistent Lawrie Casey managed to get control of his (sometimes) errant putter to put together a solid round of 34 points which gave him a one-shot win from Brett Radley with 33 points.

Von Morris was the ladies’ winner with 34 points and Helen Emery the runner up with 29 points.

Ball winners were Alan Hausler with 34 points, Kevin Bauerle with (33), Laurie Radley (32) and Peter Sherman (31).

Shane Bywaters had a great day on the par three holes picking up the A grade Nearest the Pin trophy on the 3rd and the First Tea voucher on the 15th (his second for the week) as well as the taking the nearest second shot on the par four 13th.

Despite these successes he could not make his mark on the leaderboard finishing the day with 29 points.

Pooch McHale (A grade NTP on the 12th), Mick Gallivan (B grade NTP on the 3rd) and Alan Hausler (2nd shot on the 9th) rounded out the trophy winners for the day.

On Tuesday Kelly Cheong took out A grade with 35 points from Rochester’s Dave Gebbie with 34 while Geoff Strachan scored a two-shot win in B grade with 34 points from another former A grader in Paul Kuiper with 32.

Daryl Harrison (31 points), Laurie Radley (31) and Colin Rangitonga (30) won balls in the ball comp.

Gary Jurey won the B grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd and Shane Bywaters the First Tea voucher on the 15th while Kayne Crompton (9th) and Pooch McHale (12th) claimed the best second shot balls.

Ladies Wednesday Golf Report

Early fog meant that a small contingent of ladies graced the Valley View course on Wednesday.  They were rewarded with mostly clear and mild conditions for the stableford round.

Tracey Wade was the winner with 33 points, and Judy Sutton runner up finishing with 32 points.

Von Morris claimed the Firstea voucher once again being nearest the pin on the 3rd, while no one managed to hold the green on the 15th this week.
