Weekly Golf Report 22/3/26

The Sunshine Capital of the GV turned on another perfect day for the very good field that turned out for Saturday’s Opening Day Mixed Pinehurst.

There was a were range of scores, with Brett Radley and Helen Emery combining perfectly to score a comfortable win with a score of 74-9-65.

Rich River visitors Roy Jackson and Kelly Norris were next best with 91-22 1/2 – 68 ½ taking the runners up trophy by just over a shot from President Mick McAuliffe and his much better half, Janine, who finished with 88- 18 3/8- 69 5/8.

The scores fell a way a bit from there though with balls going to Kevin and Jenni Baurle (74 ¾), Andrew and Natalie McAuliffe (74 1/2), Marlene Topp and David Collins (75 3/8) and Luke and Von Morris (75 5/8).

Nigel Dow won the Battle of the Bachelors Stableford event with 39 points from Paul Dickens with 37.

Balls in that event went to Andrew Maw with 35 points, Glenn Laity (33), Steve Piggot (33) and Colin Rangatonga (32).

Other trophy winners on the day were Brett Radley (A grade NTP 3rd), Ian Brown (B grade NTP 3rd), Tracey Wade (NTP 12th) and Rod Breen (First Tea voucher 15th).

A big thank you to our Opening Day sponsor, Kyabram & District Funeral Services, for its generous support on the day.

An unusually small field turned out for Tuesday’s event, hence there was only one grade with Steve Piggot winning a countback from Daryl Harrison with 37 points.

Mick Pell, Kevin Bauerle and Colin Rangatonga won balls. Alas I don’t have their scores.

Jeff “Cobba” Carnie won the NTP ball on the 12th, Ray Falla the First Tea voucher on fifteen, Mick Pell best second shot on the 13th and Tommy Scurrah the best second shot ball on the ninth.

Other members of the group were just pleased to win a golf ball for recording thirty Stableford points at one or all of the courses.

In line with Golf Australia’s wish to have events such as the Classic become Medley events where men and women compete equally, it was wonderful to see Leanne Busch awarded 4th prize and Helen Emery declared the winner in B Grade in the overall three day competition.
