Weekly Men & Ladies Golf Report 20/7/25

Saturday: Our members reviewed their love affair with the Par format on the weekend with a decent field turning out and registering some positive, albeit not exceptional results.

In A grade our resident Postie, footballing nomad, social butterfly and general sporting guru Lawrie Casey finished one up and claimed a two-shot win from Kevin Bauerle who is none of the above. Kevin finished with a round of -1.

In B grade Paul Dickens and Des Partington both posted scores of +1 with the countback going Dicko’s way.

One up was also the magic number in the ladies’ comp appearing beside Helen Emery’s name on the leaderboard as she held out Rich River’s Kelly Norris who finished as runner up with a score of even par.

Things went a little south from there though with balls going to Kerry Kreeck (-1), Gavon Armstrong (-2), Nigel Dow (-2), Steve Usher (-2) Peter Blackmore (-3), Lyn Gallivan (-3) and Von Morris (-3).

Nigel Dow won the ball for nearest second shot at the ninth while nearest the Pin trophies went the way of Mick Gallivan (A grade 12th), John Canavan (B grade 3rd), Peter Sherman (B grade 12th), Von Morris (3rd) and Alan Curnow 15th.

Von picked up a bonus dozen jackpot balls for her exceptional tee shot on the 3rd which finished within a metre of the pin and I’m sure she would have converted that to a birdie.

The final of the Isaac Family Match Play event was also played at the weekend with Steve Usher and Paul Dickens getting the better of Gavon Armstrong and Glenn Laity in a 3&2 result.

To Tuesday’s golf where the very consistent Tony Williams put together the day’s best score of 37 points and scored a comfortable six-shot win in B grade from Geoff Squires who won a countback for runner up From Geoff Strachan and David Collins with 31 points.

Ash Kuiper was the A grade winner with 34 points by one shot from Pooch McHale who finished with 33points.

Our winners in Ash and Tony also picked up the respective Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd while Peter Lyon picked up the B grade NTP ball on the twelfth.

Balls went to the previously mentioned Geoff Strachan and David Collins along with Mick Coyne and Gordon Mackay who both had 30-point scores.

Scoop

Ladies Wednesday Golf:

After weeks of mostly above Par rounds, the winners of the PAR round on July 16th both returned sub Par scores. Von Morris was the winner with plus 3, closely followed by Tracey Wade with plus 2. Wanda Hacon was nearest the pin.

The newly minted Grace Kim chip in competition was easily won by Judy Sutton whose chip in for birdie on the 15th would have allowed her to write 5 for 2 on a Stableford score card, but being PAR, she could only record 1 plus. No trophies for Judy, but a good effort, nonetheless.
