Weekly Golf Repot - 26/4/26
Saturday’s Girgarre RSL ANZAC Day Stableford event produced one of the more remarkable 4 Ball performances with Paul Dickens taking out the event with 47 points.
Playing one of his best ever rounds Dicko set up his victory with a massive 25 point back nine which included four three-point pars (on holes 12, 13, 14 & 17) and a tap in birdie two for four points as he also won the First Tea Nearest the Pin voucher on the 15th hole.
Paul’s scorecard also bore the name Alan Hausler who contributed two three-point holes on the front nine before he (we can only assume) had to leave the course. Fortunately, he was able to make it back in time to make a contribution at Presentations.
The unlikely pairing of Glenn Laity and Lindsay Tatterson took out the men’s runner’s up trophy with the excellent score of 45 points.
The ladies also put together some very good scores, the best coming from Von Morris and Wendy Cox with 44 points as they scored a one-point win in what was a jam-packed leaderboard with four pairs contesting a countback for runner up with 43 points.
After a lengthy countback process Jan McHale and Marlene Top emerged as the runner’s up from Helen Emery & Jenni Bauerle, Judy Greer & Bev Lyon and Denise Pappin & Marilyn Morrell.
The last three groups mentioned won balls in the ball which was dominated by the ladies with Helen Armstrong & Marg Smerdon and Sharon Harrison & Julie Neale also winning balls with 42 points.
Aside from Paul Dickens on the 15th the only other Nearest the Pin trophy winner was Kelly Cheong on the 3rd hole.
Kelly also won the nearest second shot ball on the 13th while Laurie Radley picked the Nearest second shot ball on the ninth leaving himself with a par putt of only a few centimetres.
The Callaway event was won by Cam Graham.
Tuesday’s winners were Brenton Sheppard in A grade with 38 points and Geoff Strachan in B grade with 36 points.
Strachannie’s B grade win came courtesy of a three-way count back in which he fended of runner up Geoff Squires and Paul Pappin.
Peter Mangan was the A grade runner up with 37 points in a countback from Kevin Bauerle.
Ball comp winners were the aforementioned Kevin Bauerle and Paul Pappin, Mick Pell (36), John Burrows (35) and Mick McAuliffe (35).
Colin Rangitonga took home the First Tea Nearest the Pin voucher on the 15th and the nearest second shot ball on the ninth.
Mick Pell had a profitable day winning a ball in the ball comp, the nearest second on the 13th as well as a further half a dozen balls from the Eagle’s Nest as he holed out with his second shot on that hole.
