Weekly Golf Report - 11/10/2026
The remarkably consistent Geoffrey Strachan put together the stand out round in Saturday’s Stableford event winning B grade with the excellent score of 41 points as he finished four shots clear of his nearest challengers.
Three front nine pars were the feature of his round with his four on the par four second yielding four of his 21 points on the outward leg of the course.
Bud Thorsen finished as the B grade runner up with 37 points in a countback from Rory Kerr.
The ubiquitous Pooch McHale was the A grade winner with 39 points, a birdie three on the 17th being the highlight of his round.
Ubiquitous? You bet. Not only does he fill key roles as Valley View’s lead mechanic and a key member of our grounds staff Pooch also is the GV Vets Co-Ordinator running the admin side of the monthly event. If that is not enough, he is now branching out into Valet Parking after an impressive parking audition/demonstration last week.
The more conservative Kelly Cheong finished as runner up to Pooch with 36 points.
It was a big week for the McHales with Jan taking out the ladies with a very good round of 39 points finishing one shot clear of Lynne Canavan with 38 points.
Ball comp winners were Bud Thorsen with 37 points, Peter Mangan (36), Laurie Radley (35), Ian Brown (35), Penguin Nelson (35), Dylan Gallivan (34), Alan Curnow (34) and Paul Dickens (34).
To the par three holes and Nearest the Pin winners were Lawrie Casey (A grade 3rd), Gordon Mackay (A grade 12th), Neil Potter (B grade 12th) while Tracey Wade won the First Tea voucher on the 15th.
Rory Kerr (9th) and new member Young Dock Kim (13th) won the second shot balls.
Earlier in the week Mick Pell was the A grade winner on Tuesday with a score of 38 points from Frank Brocek with 37 points.
David Collins was a comfortable five shot winner in B grade with 37 points from Kayne Crompton with 32.
Miles Gould topped the ball comp winners with 36 points with other ball winners being Shane Bywaters with 36 points, Pooch McHale (34) and Rochester’s Dave Gebbie (32).
Miles added the A grade NTP balls on both the 3rd and 12th to his collection, Kayne Crompton picked up the B grade NTP on the 12th, Scott Thompson (Lockington) won the second shot ball on nine and Dave Gebbie the second shot ball on the 13th.
Finally, our board and executive were returned unopposed at our AGM at the weekend. I big congratulations and thanks to those board members, many who have been in their roles for some years.
Also, we acknowledge and thank Gavon Armstrong for his efforts as Captain for the past 2-3 years as he hands over the reins to Paul Kuiper from next week.
A reminder that this week’s round is the annual Dom Cerrone Memorial 4BBB Stableford.
