Weekly Golf Report 25/10/26

A special surprise appearance from former club Captain Doug Kajewski got Saturday’s Stableford round off to a bright start and while the man known as TOF couldn’t get amongst the winners list it was still great to have him catching up with old friends following presentations.

Those winners on the day were Frank Broucek, John Canavan and Von Morris.

Frank took out A grade with 38 points, two more than the 36 points he and his partner scored in last week’s 4Ball, clear evidence that he needs to be more selective about his choice of four ball partners. In a rock-solid round Frank scored 19 points on each nine with just one double bogey on his card.

Peter Mangan finished one shot back from Frank as he took out the runner’s up trophy with 37 points.

John won B grade, also with 38 points, and the highlight of his round was a birdie three on the sixth.

Rob Geisler finished as runner up to John with 36 points and is striking form just in time to defend his B grade champion title in next month’s club championships.

Von had the best score of the day with 39 points with the highlight of her round being a birdie on the long par five 14th.

Helen Emery was the ladies’ runner up with 36 points in a countback from Sharon Harrison who led the list of ball comp winners that also included Paul Pappin with 35 points, Peter Blackmore (34), Brett Radley (33) and Graeme Harrison (33).

Peter Mangan (A grade 3rd), Paul Pappin (B grade 12th), Tracey Wade (3rd) and Gordon Mackay (First Tea Voucher 15th) took home nearest the Pin trophies on a relatively quite day on the short holes.

After driving to within a couple of metres of the green on the 13th Brett Radley took out the nearest second shot ball in A grade before tapping in for birdie and Jennie Bauerle won the second shot ball on the ninth.

On Tuesday, Nigel Dow made a stunning return to form with a tremendous round of 44 points as he scored a runaway eleven shot win in A grade.

Nigel scored birdies on the 1st, 4th and 5th holes on his way to an outrageous 27 points on the front nine.

Pooch McHale was the distant figure in Nigel’s rear vision mirror taking out the runner’s up trophy with 33 points.

Things were much closer in B grade with Jeff Carnie finishing with 38 points and a one-shot win over Laurie Radley and Garey Jurey with Laurie getting the nod in the countback for runner up.

Gary picked up a ball in the ball comp with his 37 points as did Bud Thorsen (33), Albert Adams (33) and John Canavan (32).

Nearest the Pin winners were Shane Bywaters (A grade 3rd), Albert Adams (B grade 3rd), Kevin Bauerle (A grade 12th), Wayne Thorsen (B grade 12th), Shane Bywaters again (15th) and Dave Gebbie (2nd shot 9th).

This week’s Stableford event will be the first round of the Summer Cup with the Club Championships to be contested over the following three weeks.
