Weekly Golf Report - 12/4/26

Visitors from afar as Sawtell in Northern NSW and Curlewis (Vic) joined us for what was a big week of golf at Valley View.

The feature event was our Annual Tournament on Friday which was touched by the first signs of winter though a good field turned out for the four ball event nonetheless.

Despite the contingent of visitors in the field the leaders board was dominated by locals with young guns Wil Harrison and Jonty Sefton making the most of the school holiday break to take out the men’s comp with 46 Stableford points.

This gave Wil the bragging rights in the Harrison house as they finished three points ahead of runner’s up in Daryl Harrison and Mick Pell with 43 points.

In the ladies’ event Tracey Wade and Marlene Topp combined best with another good score, 42 points, and they too were 3 shot winners with Lyn Canavan and Jo Hammond finishing next best with 39 points taking out the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Wendy Cox and Wanda Hacon who picked up a ball for their efforts.

Other ball worthy scores came from the pairings of Paul Pappin & Paul Kuiper (41 points), Kevin Humbert & Jeff Carnie (39), Denise Pappin & Merrilyn Morrell (38), Terri Griffin & Vicki McNamara (38), Julie Neale & Judy Greer (38) and Peter Blackmore & Kevin Bauerle (38).

Hitting the Par three holes in the windy conditions was a challenge with only Gordon Mackay having success, picking up NTP a ball on the 12th and the First Tea voucher on the 15th hole.

Jeff Carnie (9th) and Lawrie Casey (13th) won the nearest second shot balls.

Conditions were even windier and colder for Saturday’s Stableford event with scoring taking the same downward trajectory as the temperature with only one player, Peter Blackmore, playing to better than his handicap.

Blackers, who doesn’t seem to feel the cold, emerged from a recent form slump with 37 points to take out A grade by four shots from Mick Gallivan with 33 points and the word is that Peter’s putting was a feature of his round.

In B grade the value of experience showed out in the trying conditions with Geoff Squires finishing with 33 points, one shot ahead of Geoff Strachan with 32 points.

Ball winners were Mick McAuliffe with 32 points (apparently lifting his game after a shocker on Friday), Kevin Bauerle (32), Helen Armstrong (31), John Neale (31), Ian Brown (30) and Brad Edwards (30).

As with Friday, NTP trophy winners were few and far between with Bev Lyon collecting on the 3rd and David Collins (First Tea voucher) on the 15th on his way to a birdie.

Geoff Squires (9th) and Dylan Gallivan (13th) won the best second shot balls.

Tuesday’s golfers had much better conditions with results as follows:

Colin Rangitonga 34 points in a countback from Geoff Strachan

Easter Monday & Wednesday Golf:

Players enjoyed beautiful Autumn sunshine for Wednesday’s Stableford round.

Helen Emery was the A Grade winner with 36 points, closely followed by runner up, Janice Johnstone on 35 points.

Gill Thorsen topped B Grade with 39 points, which was the best score of the day. Margaret Smerdon continued her good form to be runner up with 36 points. Tracey Wade won the Firstea Voucher for nearest the pin on the third.

Meanwhile on Easter Monday, a small field including visitors from Parkland, Dorset and Merrigum enjoyed their holiday on the golf course. Sean McDonell clearly enjoyed the day finishing with 41 points. John Canavan was runner up with 36 points.

Von Morris was the winner of the ladies with 33 points on a countback from Wendy Cox.

Whilst on the subject of Easter, Easter Bunny came early to these winners of our Easter egg raffle: Steve Usher, Graeme Harrison, Bud Thorsen, Wendy Cox and Peter Nelson.
