Weekly Golf Report 10/5/26

While scoring in the 41st edition of the Wally Shaw Memorial 4 Ball Aggregate followed the trend of lower scoring from recent years, history was made with Daryl Harrison and Mick Pell becoming the first pair to defend their title in this event.

In an even team effort Daryl finished with 36 points and Mick 35 and while that left them well short of their 77point total from last year, it was enough to give them a four-shot buffer from runners up in Graeme Harrison (34) and David Collins (33) who compiled an aggregate score of 67 points.

While Daryl and Mick created their own slice of history the best aggregate score of the day came from Jenni Bauerle (37) and Lynne Canavan (35) as they took out the ladies’ event with 72 points in another even team performance.

In an anomaly that four ball events sometimes throw up, Jenni was also paired with Helen Emery and they finished with the second-best score of 65 points.

ANZAC Day runner’s up in Glenn Laity and Lindsay Tatterson had more success leading the ball comp winners with 66 points with the combinations of Steve Brown and Ian Rathjen, Mick Gallivan and Paul Dickens, and Gordon Mackay and Peter Blackmore all winning balls with aggregates of 65 points.

What’s more it did not go unnoticed that Gordon the Golfer contributed 39 points from the tally of the last-mentioned pairing.

Mick Pell added the A grade Nearest the Pin on both the 3rd and 12th to his winner’s trophy, Alan Curnow and Lyn Canavan also won NTP balls on the 3rd and Von Morris won the First Tea voucher on the 15th.

Julie Neale (9th) and Alex Kydd (13th) won the best second shot balls.

David Collins dominated Tuesday’s Stableford event taking out A grade with 37 points and picked up the First Tea Voucher on the 15th along the way.

Mick McAuliffe was the A grade runner up with 36 points.

In B grade the recently demoted Graeme Harrison scored a win with 35 points with Bud Thorsen the runner up with 33 points.

Local mail was held over to allow Lawrie Casey to lead the ball comp winners in with 34 points and he was joined on that list by Kelly Cheong also with 34 points, Steve Piggot (32), Peter Blackmore (32), Kevin Humbert (32), Colin Ranitonga (31) and Mick Gallivan (31).

Colin Ranitonga (B grade 3rd) and David Collins (15th) were the only NTP winners on the day.

This Saturday’s event is an individual Stableford while the following week will be the Isaac 4BBB Par Qualifier which is another honour board event. It will be interesting to see how many combinations from Saturday will back up as a team for this event.

In A Grade, Leanne Busch, 94-19-75, claimed the win from Janice Johnstone, 99-23-76. She also won the best gross score on a count back from Helen Emery and Jenni Bauerle. All three had 94 off the stick.

In B Grade, Gill Thorsen, 108-30-78, was the winner on a count back from Judy Greer, 105-27-78, whose 105 off the stick won her the ball for the best gross score.

The Monthly Medal was won by Leanne Busch with the best net score overall of 75.

Nearest the pins went to Helen Emery who claimed the Firstea voucher on the 3rd and Tracey Wade and Helen Armstrong on the 15th.
