Weekly Golf Report 14/4/24

SATURDAY: Another Valley View young gun looks destined for A grade after he shot the lights out in Saturday’s Stableford event.

It might not be next week but Archer Backway looks set join fellow junior members in Wil Harrison and Jonty Sefton in A grade in the near future.

On a perfect day for golf Archer fired what was easily the day’s best score of 46 Stableford points (a score that would win him many a 4 Ball event on his own) and his round of 88 off the stick included a birdie on the par four 1st and six pars and his handicap from the weekend of 26 should be a few shots lighter as a result.

He was massive ten shot winner in B Grade leaving Les Hall to take out the count back for runner up with 36 points from Ian Rathjen and Geoff Squires.

Just to top off his excellent day, Archer also won the B grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th as he parred both holes.

In A grade Graeme Harrison put together what would normally be the headline round of the day with 40 points and he secured a three- shot win from Gordon Mackay with 37 points.

On a very even card Harro had a pair of 20 points on each side (42 off the stick both sides) parring nine of the 18 holes.

While the scoring was not quite as good in the ladies’ event it was a lot closer at the top of the leaderboard with Wendy Cox getting across the line with 32 points in a countback from Von Morris.

Balls in the ball comp went the way of Bud Thorsen, Ian Rathjen, Geoff Squires, Jonty Sefton (all 36 points) and Mick Gallivan with 35 points.

Paul Dickens (3rd) and Bud Thorsen (12th) took home the A grade Nearest the Pin balls.

TUESDAY: The scoring was a bit more sedate on Tuesday with David Collins taking out A grade with 35 points from Peter Blackmore who had a round of 34 points.

In B grade Kerry Kreeck took out a countback from Jeff Carnie with 34 points.

Jonty Sefton, Kevin Humbert and Wil Harrison all won balls with 33 points and Daryl Harrison won the A grade Nearest the Pin along with the voucher on fifteen.

We have some big days coming up at the club starting with the Girgarre RSL 4BBB event on ANZAC day. Assembly is at 1130am for a midday tee off.

On Saturday April 27 we have the Wally Shaw 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford event which is an honor board event.

Friday 3rd May is our Annual Tournament which is a 4BBB Stableford event so stay tuned for further details.
